Unit 4 Chemistry Area of Study 1: Industrial Chemistry

Industrial Chemistry  There are 3 main topics for this Area of Study.  They are:  Chemical Equilibrium  Acid-Base Equilibria  Sulphuric Acid

Textbook References  Chemical Equilibrium – Chapter 9  Acid-Base Equilibria – Chapter 10  Sulphuric Acid – Chapter 11 (p )

Checkpoints References  Chemical Equilibrium  Pg 98 Q1-36, Pg 113 Q1-9  Acid-Base Equilibria  Pg 109 Q37 – Q52, Pg 120 Q10-13  Sulphuric Acid – Chapter 11 (p )  This topic is not on the exam, but is assessed through a SAC.

Assessment  Area of Study 1: Industrial Chemistry is assessed by two SAC’s.  SAC 1: a response to stimulus material in written, oral or visual format  This will be a topic test on Sulphuric Acid.  SAC 2: a written report of one practical activity  This will be an experiment on the effect of temperature and pressure on equilibrium systems.

Assessment – Marks Breakdown  The two SAC’s for Unit 4: Area of Study 1 together contribute 10% to your study score for Chemistry.  SAC 1 is 5%  SAC 2 IS 5%

Outline of Area of Study 1 TERM 2  Weeks 6 -7  Chapter 9, Chemical Equilibrium  Weeks 8-9  Chapter 10, Acid-Base Equilibria  Week 10  Chapter 11, Sulphuric Acid

Outline of Area of Study 1 TERM 3  Week 1  Mon – Revision on Sulphuric Acid  Wed – SAC 1: Test on Sulphuric Acid  Fri – Revision on Chemical Equilibrium and Acid Base Equilibria

Outline of Area of Study 1 TERM 3  Week 2  Mon – SAC 2: Experiment  Wed –Revision for Discussion Questions  Fri – SAC 2: Write Up Area of Study 2 begins in Week 3
