IN MY MANIFESTO, I SAID I WOULD:

I believe I have succeeded in the majority of these, especially those about my effort levels, my working with other exec members and students to ensure it is not just my own wishes carried out. Activities that I organised, helped with, wrote risk assessments for, made budgets for, helped advertise and in some cases, several days put into research beforehand to make sure the best was offered to students. I have only missed two meetings due to illness and have organised many more meetings for myself to attend with relevant staff members to get as much information as I could to improve student lives. I haven’t managed to organise a cohesive activities committee, despite a strong start last summer, it became difficult to get students engaged in meetings that I struggled to make easy to attend. NSU bar committee meetings occurred a few times during the year but were short and reactive, rather than pro-active as I’d have wanted. So much time has been dedicated to this role and my heart has been with it even when my head was tired and the easy option was to give up, but as I’ve always said, this role, along with all the voluntary roles and to an extent the sabbatical roles, the lack of pay is not a reason to not try, this is a role for experience and I am so so grateful for this experience.

SWOT analysis- Strengths- -Hours put in. Were never limited, regardless of time of day or effort required. -Honesty -Successful off-site Christmas Ball -Freshers accessible my more varieties of students -Student voice surveyed and being used for strategic plan Sports and society nights supported and were very successful -Part of a relatively strong voluntary team in the circumstances Weaknesses- -Not asking for help -Lack of internal communication -Apathy of team regarding “not fun” parts of the job Opportunities- -Lots of support from certain staff members around university -Wide variety of students give a wide variety of opinions Threats- -Facebook -Non productive opposition

Who I have supported and who has supported me: Who I have supported- -Students in general at the office or around campus -The exec -Sports teams – events and at matches -Societies – trips, activities, campaigns and events -NUS card purchasers -The university Who has supported me- -Engaged students -The exec -NSU staff -The university -My housemates The year has been a busy one and these lists are broad and vague, but I hope I’ve shown how much I care about the role and the students and how grateful I am to anyone who has helped me perform this role. Ben Woodvine NSU Activities Officer 2013/2014
