Daniel Wallace & Big Fish Ms. Mitchell Freshman Literature Andover High School

“When a man’s stories are remembered, then he is immortal.” --Daniel Wallace Big Fish

Main Characters: Edward Bloom and William Bloom Premise: Edward Bloom is dying. William doesn’t know much about him except for the outrageous stories he’s been told growing up. Now he’s desperately trying to understand who is father is, before it’s too late.

Daniel Wallace American author Best know for Big Fish but has also written Ray in Reverse and The Watermelon King and other novels. He has also written numerous short stories. Grew up in Alabama. Presently lives in North Carolina. Collects glass eyes. Agnostic in faith. Did not go back to finish college until 2008.

Structure Big Fish does not have a linear narrative structure. The novel is comprised of short chapters of vignettes—each of which could be its own free standing story. Sometimes the chapters go out of order, jumping from one period in time to another. Sometimes characters will show up in different stories.

The Movie Made into a film in 2003 Directed by Tim Burton Edward Bloom (old): Albert Finney Edward Bloom (young): Ewan McGregor
