England did not exist when the Anglo-Saxons arrived, instead they lived in small countries known as Kingdoms because they were ruled by a King. In the midlands there was a kingdom called Mercia that was once the most powerful Kingdom in England

The Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms were often at war. After centuries of fighting they come together as one country: England

The Anglo- Saxons were not only Warriors, they were also artistic people that wrote poems and riddles, made beautiful jewellery and fine carvings. © Trustees of the British Museum
