How many English language periods are taught in government and UNRWA schools every week for every stage? (Consult in-service teachers or supervisors) 6. Is the number of lessons allocated for teaching English at school sufficient to the lessons in the book? How do you know? 7. What do English language teachers say? Do they justify their answers? Are you convinced with their answers? Why?

CONTENTS Elementary stage ( ) Upper stage ( 5 – 10 ) Secondary stage ( 11 – 12 )

Elementary stage ( 1 – 4 ) -There are 18 units at every grade. -Every unit contains 6 periods. -Every week, students have 3-4 classes. -After every unit, there is a unit for revision.

-The language skills sequences : reading, listening, speaking and writing. Some lessons require to use two skills ( mixture). -E.g.… listening & speaking in unit 3 page 18.

Upper stage ( 5 – 10 ) ( 5 – 7 ) ( 5 – 7 ) - It contains 24 units. In the first term, they take 12 units. - Each unit contains 5 lessons. - The language skills sequences : - reading, listening, speaking and writing.

An example ( 8 – 10 )

It contains 24 units. Each unit has 4 lessons. The language skills sequences : reading, speaking, listening and writing. There are 96 lessons in each textbook… 24 x 4 = 96. there are 5 classes at schools either in UNRWA or government. The number of lessons doesn’t allocated at schools.  GRADE 6

It contains 16 units, Each unit has 5 lessons. There are 80 lessons in each textbook… 16 x 5= 80 there are 5 periods at schools either in UNRWA or government. The number of lessons doesn’t allocated at schools. We need one more period every week according to English teachers.  GRADE 9

-The language skills sequences : reading, listening, speaking and writing. Some lessons require to use two skills ( mixture ). -E.g.… listening & speaking in unit 1 page 10.

What do English language teachers say ? teachers say ? to give the pupils many different exercises. Also we need more time to give every pupil a chance for reading especially the first lesson in every unit. The first lesson in every unit needs one more period to teach it, so they cancelled the last 4 units.

They may be right, but in every lesson there is a certain goal and specific skills. Sometimes teachers focus on another skill and waste their times and say we don’t have enough time !!! Our opinion

secondary Stage ( 10 – 12 ) secondary Stage ( 10 – 12 ) - It contains 10 units - Each unit contains 6 lessons. - The language skills sequences : - reading, listening, speaking and writing. - It be noticed that the number of units decrease in this stage comparing with other stages. On the other hand the number of lessons increase.

GRADE 11 - IT contains 10 units. Each unit has 6 lessons. - The language skills sequences : reading, listening, speaking and writing. - There are 60 lessons in each textbook x 6 = 60 - There are 5 periods thought in government schools every week. - The number of lessons allocated at schools. According to teacher’s experience, but it had some difficulty like: holidays, strikes, bad some difficulty like: holidays, strikes, bad weather, … etc.. weather, … etc..

What do English language teachers say ? They say that lessons allocated for teaching English language at schools sufficient to lessons in the book because they see students results and what points which they are weak and They say that lessons allocated for teaching English language at schools sufficient to lessons in the book because they see students results and what points which they are weak and strong in. strong in. We are agree with them. Grade 11 is old enough to understand what they are taking because it is to understand what they are taking because it is a collection for what they learnt before. a collection for what they learnt before.
