Reason for Founding New York actually started out as The Netherlands and was founded by the Dutch before 1664.The English King Charles II hated the Dutch trading with the English warships. The English warship wanted to fight the Dutch. The Dutch saw how many warships the English had and went without a fight August,1664 New York actually started out as The Netherlands and was founded by the Dutch before 1664.The English King Charles II hated the Dutch trading with the English warships. Geography The terrain was swampy near the coast of the Hudson river. Further North were mountains covered with many forests. The ground was very rocky though, the soil was good for farming once it was cleared of rocks and trees. It had many great rivers and harbors. The farm land was fertile which contributed the many small, family owned farms. The terrain was swampy near the coast of the Hudson river. Further North were mountains covered with many forests. Government The people were very ready for the occasion of the English invasion to submit there new rulers in hope of there liberty. They heard from the other middle colonies said that the taxing without permission was illegal. That problem continued ‘till 1683 when William Penn gave advice to the Duke of York and gave permission to the people. Economy Colonists made there living in a lot of ways: fur trapping, lumber trading, shipping, the slave trade, and as merchants and tradesman in colony towns. Farmers grew flax, vegetables, wheat and tobacco. Some even mined iron to send to England for manufacturing into finished goods.
