GCSE ICT Introduction

How is the GCSE course organised? The GCSE course has three parts: Assignment (Year 10 project) - this section is set by the examination board and tests your abilities in a range of ICT skills. Project (Year 11 project) - this section is chosen by you and tests your abilities to focus on one piece of software in more detail. Examination - this will test your knowledge and understanding of ICT theory. There is one exam which is one and a half hours in length. It takes place at the end of Year 11.

Assignment – Year 10 Project This has 5 sections: - Analysis - 10 marks Describe the task I need to complete. Design - 25 marks Plan out my solution to the task. Implementation - 45 marks Create my solution to the task. Testing - 10 marks Make sure my solution works. Evaluation - 10 marks Decide whether my solution was effective or not. Total marks (worth 30% of your final GCSE grade)

Assessment & Tier of Entry The course is assessed as follows: Assignment (Year 10 project) 30% Project (Year 11 Project) 30% Examination 40% You will be entered for either the Foundation Paper or the Higher Paper based on your performance throughout the course.

What’s the difference? Higher PaperFoundation Paper A* A BCD E F G U

Poor performance Some students will be entered for the short course if their coursework is not of the required standard. This is only worth half a GCSE!

To get you started Before we start the actual GCSE course we complete a short ‘Practise’ course. Why? To improve your skills of using key software effectively and get you used to the structure of coursework tasks. ‘Practise’ course - now until the end of October.

Creating a suitable folder structure You will need to be organised and so must learn to store your work logically. To help you do this you need to create suitable folder structure.
