Take Me on a Trip! New Jersey’s Counties Can you match each picture to its county?

Welcome to the Garden State! Over the past few weeks we have been studying New Jersey. You just read the book G is for the Garden State. We will be taking a closer look inside some of NJ’s counties.

NJ Needs Your Help! On October 29, 2012, Hurricane Sandy devastated the coastline of New Jersey. As a result, tourism in New Jersey suffered greatly. Visitnj.org needs your help to increase tourism and bring people back to the Garden State. Working with your team, you will research a specific county in New Jersey and design a Google Slides slide show for Visitnj.org or a travel brochure using Google Docs.Visitnj.org Get ready to plan an exciting trip and learn what makes each NJ county unique!

The Teams Each team will focus on 5 specific counties in New Jersey. Each member will have an area to research. o Travel Agent o Sports and Recreation Reporter o Event Planner o Historian

Team Roles Travel Agent Research fun and interesting places for families to visit on day or weekend trips. Identify at least two places to visit and write a paragraph describing each place. Include at least two pictures with captions. Sports and Recreation Caster It is your job to familiarize travelers with sports and leisure activities. Pick two places where people can either watch or play sports or engage in other leisure activities. Write a paragraph on each place and include pictures with captions. Event Planner As the event planner, you will research two major events that take place in your county. Write a paragraph about each event. Include the date, place, and time of the event and a picture. Historian As the historian, you will research the history of your county. Include a timeline of the important events in your county. Then write a paragraph describing one of the most significant events.

Team Project After completing your brainstorm individually, meet with your team. Use your graphic organizer to put your information into sentences and paragraphs. To increase tourism in your county your group will create either a: Google Slides Slideshow or a Travel Brochure using Google Docs. Make sure that your slideshow or brochure includes includes: o Introduction: Name of county and location with pictures o History– a timeline and a paragraph and pictures o Sports and Recreation –write 2 paragraphs describing each site with pictures o Events –write 2 paragraphs describing each event with pictures o Travel – write 2 paragraphs describing places to visit with pictures
