What I do: Train police officers in human rights and compliance with them. Monitor allegedly improper treatment of detainees by police. Cooperate with NGOs and others for protection of human rights. Cooperate with media to inform the public about what the police is doing to follow human rights standards. Protect the rights of minorities (ethnic, religious, sexual) when in contact with the police. Investigate potential cases of exceeding authority and use of physical or mental abuse by police officers.

How does the police combat hate crimes, racism and intolerance? We train representatives of groups affected by prejudice, dislike or even attacks. Police officers, uniformed and plain clothes, patrol the areas of increased presence of such groups. Police co-operates with many organizations and stakeholders for the security of minorities in the society. Police officers are trained and are training themselves. This applies to both senior and rank policemen. We monitor informal groups of young people catching the signals of behaviors aimed at committing offenses motivated by prejudice or hatred – to prevent any offences.

How to stay safe in a city Be street smart – as in any city! Avoid intoxicated people, do not enter into discussions with them, do not ever let yourselves get provoked. Stay alert in places of entertainment, where you’re exposed to many intoxicated people, or where there is a risk of fighting (e.g. Pasaż Niepolda). If necessary, cry for help! Let others know that you need help - believe me, Wroclaw citizens are willing to help. Look out for police patrols, they can also help you. Call me (see my business card). Avoid isolated, unlit places, especially when alone. In case something happens, try to remember as many details as possible concerning time, place, and most of all – the perpetrator. This will help the police find him.
