EVALUATION- QUESTION 3- ABIGAIL COX WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY?

MAINSTREAM Mainstream films can best be defined as commercial films that are made by major entertainment studios or companies that are owned by international media conglomerates, using a big budget and well known stars. Mainstream films normally have high production values and a high profile marketing campaign. List of major mainstream studios and companies: - Hammer Studios - Warner Bros - Sony - Buena Vista -Studio Canal -Paramount -Universal -20 th Century Fox -New Line Cinema

INDEPENDENT An independent film is a professional film production resulting in a feature film that is produced mostly or completely outside of the major film studio system, with a low budget. In addition to being produced and distributed by independent entertainment companies, independent films are also produced and/or distributed by subsidiaries of major film studios. They normally include no expensive special effects and character and narrative drives the film, and independent films normally have a small marketing campaign. List of major independent studios and companies: -Lionsgate Films, -The Weinstein Company -MGM -Film 4 -Vertigo Film -Pathe

Which film company would be interested in your film and why? We chose to use STUDIOCANAL as our company to produce and distribute our film. This is because this company has a lot of history with creating successful thrillers and crime thrillers such as ‘Unknown’ and ‘The Last Exorcism’. However as our film would probably most likely be an independent film, we wouldn’t be able to persuade Studiocanal to be our company as it is a mainstream distributor.

Film festivals and award nominations. Realistically our film is going to be an independent film. So the time of film festivals that our film could be previewed in and nominated for awards would be: London independent film festival Raindance Birds Eye View (For emerging women directors.) British Student Film Festival British Urban Film Festival Commonwealth Film Festival End Of The Pier International Film Festival (International, UK, and local South Coast films.) London Film Festival UK Film Festival

Films produced by Studiocanal:

How would you use digital technologies, web 2.0, social networks to promote and distribute your film and why? Broadcast trailers on television advertisements, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, cinema advertisements, tumblr, etc. Create Facebook, twitter, Instagram, tumblr pages for the film to gain likes and followers. Arrange for the stars to have newspaper, magazine, online and television interviews, promoting the film. Create very own interactive website for the film, which includes sneak peaks, interviews and behind the scene footage. Include other videos again such as interviews, sneak peak and behind the scene footage on own YouTube channel.
