Hebrews 11:23-29 Consider the Faith of Moses….
Moses is probably the most well-known character of the Old Testament. But also look at the diversity of his life. He was: > a captive, Ex.1:11,22 > royalty, Ex.2:10; Heb.11:24b > a murderer, Ex.2:12-15 > a shepherd, Ex.2:16 - 3:1ff > a prophet, Ex.2:10-12; 1Cor.9:9 Despite this, he was still just a man. Not just any man though- a man of FAITH!
Moses’ FAITH Was the kind Hebrews 11 is defining and exemplifying: >the kind with assurance and conviction, v.1 >the kind that gains God’s approval, v.2 >the kind without which it is impossible to please God, v.6
Moses’ FAITH Hebrews 11:23-29 Was the kind of faith that made him do certain things (cf. James 2:14-26). Like: >Refuse, v.24 His faith made him refuse some things that obviously would have been very advantageous. >Choose, v.25 His faith made him choose the harder path because it was the right path, cf. Mt.7:13-14.
Moses’ FAITH Hebrews 11:23-29 Was also the kind of faith that made him: >Look, v.26 His faith made him look beyond the here and now to the hereafter, 2Cor.5:7ff. >Leave, v.27 His faith made him leave some things behind, 2Cor.6:14ff. What would have happened to Lot’s family had he made a similar choice?
Moses’ FAITH Hebrews 11:23-29 And it was the kind of faith that made him: >Keep, v.28 His faith made him keep God’s specified way to worship. He did not alter, improve, or modernize it- he kept it just the way God had said. Moses was certainly not perfect. But he was faithful. And faithful requires obedience.
Are You? willing to faithful obey God by: Refusing the things that aren’t right? Hebrews 12:25 Choosing the sometimes harder but godly path? 1Corinthians 10:12-13 Looking by faith rather than by sight? Hebrews 12:1ff Leaving the things you should, when you should? Hebrews 6:1ff Keeping always to God’s way instead of anything and everything else?
You can have faith like Moses. Why not start today- even right now?
