Abiotic Factors in the Environment How do we use a study guide?

1. Know the difference between biotic and abiotic factors Know the definitions for both words Know that biotic = living or once living Know that abiotic = never having lived Be able to name a few examples of each (category sort)

2. Be able to explain how abiotic factors support life First, know the most important abiotic factors in an environment Be able to speak specifically about how these factors support life (article on abiotic factors & drawing we completed)

3. Know the causes & effects of acid deposition Know what acid deposition is Know what causes acid deposition Know the effects of acid deposition on the environment (Notes we took on acid deposition & acid rain lab)

4. Understand the water cycle Use diagram on study guide Know the definitions of all terms Know how the items in the cycle relate (Study your water cycle notes & illustration on study guide)

5. Know at least 3 elements of the nitrogen cycle and be able to explain them thoroughly. Use the note cards we created in class with the steps on them. Know at least 3 symbols that represent parts of the nitrogen cycle and what those symbols represent. (Study the note cards we created in class: Steps 1-8)

6. Understand why fertilizers are used in farming 1 st – Determine where in our learning this information was given. Then look at what fertilizers contain Be able to tell why fertilizers are needed (why nitrogen is needed) (Notes on the nitrogen cycle fill in the blanks paper)

7. Be able to describe two ways that carbon is released into the environment. Use diagram on your study guide Know how to read the illustration Pay close attention to the up arrows on the illustration Listen as we learn more about the carbon cycle this week (illustration on the study guide)
