-Give a brief summary of the paper -Bring focus to an aspect of the paper important to mobile interfaces -Give you something to think about

Google it: “The ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning.” If you have to be taught, is it intuitive?

Utilizes prior experience with other products, but may require minimal cognitive processing power (ex.: read a button) Remember our “Virtual Signifiers” discussion in class? Is intuition for computer interfaces more heavily based on past experience?

Which is more intuitive?

Where are the number keys? Without visual indicators, what made you decide?

Participants were asked to perform simple tasks using Apple iPhone (touchscreen) or Nokia N95 (buttons) -Find a contact and dial it in the contacts list -Create a new text message addressed to a certain contact -Find what event is scheduled for a certain date on the calendar Where do you think there was trouble?

Many participants tried to enter the message in the area marked by the red box

General result: Previous experience with iPhone led to faster times than previous experience with Nokia iPhone: Less intuitive, more efficient?

Intuitive interaction with mobile interfaces is especially based on previous experience Apple may not be creating intuitive interfaces, but rather what will become intuitive
