Warm-Up What is Manifest Destiny mean? **Think back to your geoterms**

The view that the United States should expand its border from coast to coast.

The Annexation of Texas = ideas of Manifest Destiny in the United States How does this come about?

The Texans elected Dr. Anson Jones as president. Edward Burleson was elected vice-president. CANDIDTATES: Martin Van Buren – Free Soil Party Henry Clay – Whig Party James K. Polk – Democratic Party Polk, who among his party favored the annexation of Texas, won the election.

On February 26, 1845, the U.S. Congress approved a joint resolution, agreeing to accept Texas as the 28 th state. On February 19, 1846, President Jones announced the annexation of Texas. Joint resolution – formal ruling passed by both houses of the legislature and intended to become a law

Migration to Texas Texas as a new state only increased the westward expansion and ideas of Manifest Destiny. People migrated to Texas for their land, resources, and to start a new life.

Texas Migration Map Projects-Pre-AP You will be creating a migration map poster of your family’s migration from another region or part of the world. We will spend two additional class days (A day, B/C day) completing this project. The final product will be a test grade and displayed for your classmates to look at and evaluate.

Texas Migration Map Projects- Pre-AP The outline of events: -Day 1: Prep work- starting your rough draft, for homework- get the interview questions answered and plan on bringing in any pictures/markers/ resources to use. -Day 2: Complete the rough draft (grade), bring in the interview questions and pictures, start working on your poster. -Day 3: Final day working on the poster. -Day 4: Hang up posters around the room and evaluate the work of your classmates.
