Office of Undergraduate Studies FAST - New pilot program Freshman Academic Success Tracking –Faculty and staff members serve as coaches. –Total of 80 freshmen were placed on academic probation after the fall 2010 semester. –Coaches meet with probationary students approximately every other week to help the student with goal setting. –Also track academic performance to help students regain good academic standing after the semester. –Coaches do not replace academic advisors, but work alongside advisors to coach students to success.

Office of Undergraduate Studies SDELC –Richard Dalton is completing classes to become an OSHA-approved light industry and construction safety instructor. –Richard plans to offer both 10- and 30-hour OSHA training classes for S&T students. Details will follow when available. S&T will host FIRST Tech Challenge State Championship –Freshman Academic Success Tracking (FIRST) –February 26, the first of a three-year commitment to host the high school robotics competition. –SDELC staff, in partnership with Enrollment Management is taking the lead in coordinating volunteers and campus-wide support for the event. –Top-performing teams will represent Missouri in the FIRST World event held in St. Louis in April.

Office of Graduate Studies Graduate Learning Outcomes were approved by the Graduate Faculty at the Dec. 6 th, 2010 meeting. Launched the Spring 2011 Webinar series for prospective and admitted students. Spring 2011 Grad Chat series has begun. Office of Sponsored Programs FY11 activities through the end of January and a year-over-year comparison are as follows: –Proposals awarded in total dollars: $30M (down 15.5%) –Number of proposals awarded and amendments: 189 (down 4.6%) –Proposals submitted in total dollars: $77.2M (down 20.7%) –Number of proposals submitted: 306 (up 4.1%) –Research expenditures: $29.8M (up 7.6%) –F&A recovered: $4.4M (up 2.7%) –Number of active awards: 620 (up 1.3%)

Global Learning Video Classroom at the St. Louis Engineering Education Center –Fully operational & classes are being broadcast in high definition from St. Louis to Rolla. –22 courses in 6 departments delivered to Rolla campus this spring. –Facility enhances S&T’s ability to use St. Louis based adjuncts to deliver courses that help relieve the teaching load of faculty on the Rolla campus. Spring Distance Enrollment –Students enrolled in distance classes during the Spring 2011 semester show an increase of 100 students over the Spring 2010 semester. –Total enrollment stands at 702 students at the end of the third week.

International Affairs Delegation from Beijing Institute of Technology -Hosted a delegation from Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), one of China’s premier engineering and research universities, from January 18 through January 20. -The January visit was to further define the recruitment and application process for BIT students who wish to transfer at Missouri S&T.

International Affairs Intensive English Program and Cultural Programs Enrolled 37 full-time, and 23 part-time students from Brazil, China, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Mexico, Oman, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Taiwan, and Turkey. Intensive English Program Seminar Learning the importance of community service with our guest, Ms. Malinda Love, Program Administrator in Student Life. Local FBI agents Pat Cunningham and Mike Maruschak visited with students on January 19. Judge Mary Sheffield Wray, of the 25 th Circuit Court, engaged the students on January 26 th. Our guests provide great cultural and community information to help our international students adjust to life in Rolla.
