Bonjour! Bonsoir! Bonne nuit! Comment ça va? Ça va bien, merci!

Start the PowerPoint presentation. You will hear the word ‘salutations’ as you play the first slide. To hear the word again click on the icon in the top left hand corner. Tell the children that the word means ‘greetings’. Page 3 - the sounds will be introduced one at a time as you click the mouse (or use the arrow keys on the keyboard). To hear the word again click on the sound icon next to the text. You can do this either before or after all five phrases have appeared. Ask the pupils to repeat the sounds. Explain that the pictures are used to represent the words, so when they see the cockerel they know it means ‘Good morning’. Play each sound several times and explain that there are actions to go with the words. This form of learning is called ‘TPR’ - Total Physical Response. Actions enforce meaning. BonjourHold arms up in the air to mime getting up in Good morning the morning Bonsoir Hold hands down by your side and look tired, Good Afternoon or Good Evening to mime coming home from school Bonne nuit Hold head on hands as if going to sleep Goodnight Comment ça va? Shake hands with somebody How are you? Ça va bien, merci! Make an ‘OK’ sign I’m fine thanks! Teacher Notes

Page 4 - ask the pupils to say the word or phrase, and perform the action, as the pictures appear. When you click the mouse the next picture will appear. Page 5 – play the rap and ask the pupils to join in with words and actions. Play it as many times as necessary for the children to become confident. Page 6 - ask the pupils to say the word or phrase, and perform the action, as the pictures appear. When you click the mouse the word will also appear. Page 7 – play the rap again, this time with the words for the pupils to read. The pupils join in with words and actions. The three skills of reading, listening and speaking are all now being practised through the medium of a catchy rap. Teacher Notes
