Bell Ringer April 07, 2014 School Day 146 Clear Target – Students will be able to identify proportional and inversely proportional relationships represented by graphs, equations, and tables. Daily Decimal 1.What is the school day to the 2 nd Semester as a Decimal not rounded. 2.Identify if Graph A is directly or inversely proportional: Homework: Directly/Inversely WS

Let’s watch this video Extreme Makeover - Home Edition Trailer

Inversely Proportional Relationship

Inversely Proportional Graph 1. Its curved. 2. It never touches the origin or either axis. 3. You can’t complete a house if you have lots of time but 0 workers. 4. You can’t complete the house with lots of workers but 0 hours worked.

Discuss How many hours do you think it will take to build a house? If you have a small number of workers, will it take more time to build a house? If you have a small amount of time, will building a house require a large amount of workers?

Discuss In this example, the number of workers and the time are inversely proportional, because when the quantity of people decreases, the total time increases and when the quantity of people increases, the total time decreases.

Composition Notebook Let’s continue our notes on Directly/Inversely Proportional Relationships Staple the next two pages into your composition notebook.

Whiteboard Practice Remember this is practice is done in silence. Raise your board in front of you and I will let you know if you are correct by a yes or a no. If you are incorrect, please redo.

Equations: Identify if Directly, Inversely, or Neither? 1. y = ½ x Directly 2. y = 2/x Inversely 3. y = x/2 Inversely 4. 5 = xy Inversely 5. 3y = 2x Directly 6. x = 7y Inversely 7. y = -2x Neither 8. y=8x-1 Neither 9. y = 5x Directly

Graphs: Identify if Directly, Inversely, or Neither? Neither Directly Inversely

Tables: Identify if Directly or Inversely? Inversely Directly

What did we learn today? I will be able to identify directly/inversely proportional relationships represented by graphs, equations, and tables.

Exit Slip Write about it! On your dry erase board Explain the difference between a direct proportional and an inverse proportional relationship? I will check your dry erase board before leaving class.
