2  TO DETERMINE THE NATURE AND EXTENT OF THE SERVICE NETWORK AVAILABLE FOR UNEMPLOYED YOUTH IN THE SHIRE;  TO EVALUATE THE ATTITUDES OF YOUTH TO UNEMPLOYMENT, HEALTH, EQUITY, JOB NETWORK PROVIDERS, WORK FOR THE DOLE, JOB OPPORTUNITIES AND EMPLOYMENT INITIAITVES; AND  TO IDENTIFY INITIATIVES FOR JOB CREATION.

3 1.An appraisal of the Socio-Economic characteristics of the Caboolture Region, with particular reference to employment trends and the potential for job creation. 2.A profile of unemployed youth and their awareness and utilisation of the government and community services available to them. 3.An assessment of the types of services available for unemployed youth in the Caboolture Region, including Job Network.

5  A major proportion of the labour force in the Shire is aged between 15 and 39 years (53.5%), which is slightly more than that in the Australian structure (52.5%)  The 15 to 24 year age group in the Shire represents 29% of the total workforce, 3% higher than the Australian workforce.

7 OF THE 263 YOUTHS SURVEYED: 74% think Work for the Dole is a bad idea 88% think the Job Network is confusing 94% have used Centrelink Touch Screens in the past 2 weeks 0% have approached employers direct 0% have approached private employment agencies 59% state that they are in poor health because they are unemployed 82% have visited the doctor’s at least once a fortnight 38% have never had a job 46% would like to be kept informed on the Survey’s progress
