What does this say to motorists? What does it say to Bicyclists who don’t know better? RS Matt

These shoulder stripes are often confused by both bicyclists and motorists as genuine bike lanes. They are often too narrow to be used safely at common bicycling speeds, and they give cyclists and motorists the wrong conception of what constitutes sharing of the road. Many traffic professionals mistakenly still believe they are doing bicyclists a favor my placing these misleading stripes. RS Matt
