Guided Nophes The pi phat are heard in the royal palaces where they accompany the official ceremonies and classical dramatic presentations. The Ranet ek carries the melody in the pi phat ensemble A wat is a buddist church festival Ranets (xylephones) and khongs (gongs) tune by adding or removing a mixture of beexwax or lead to their gong or bar.

CFU: Snowball Create one question from the phacts you learned in our class today. Write it on a piece of paper along with your name and then crumple it up and throw it to the front of the room. When you are instructed to, go up and choose one snowball. Open it up and answer the question then turn it in. This will count as your exit ticket for today.

Active Listening #3 Kruang sai Mahori What Chinese instrument does the bowed instrument remind you of? The plucked one? What is the name of the small cymbal being chimed?

Listening Example #3 Just the Phacts Man The Mahori orchestra, being much softer and mellower, was sometimes preferred over the percussive pi pat orchestra for royal banquets. Mahori is a stringed band. This spiked fiddle called the saw sam sai leads the ensemble.
