The physical structure of a Grecian theater Built on a hill or slope Strategically seating used for good “line of sight” Strategic sight lines were a hidden effect. Usually semi-circular or circular in shape They were wide and where open-air structures

Construction Seating fits 15,000 people. Made from marble benches Seating was elevated with the hill giving a special effect.

Theatre Divisions Theatron- The viewing place for the audience Orchestra- The section where the presentation occurred Skene- The hut or room that was used for changing like a back stage.

Theatre Materials The theatre was mostly built from marble seating such as stadium seats as we know of today. The Orchestra where the acting occurred usually was raw earth but later was paved.

Who was the First Actor? Thespis is stated to be the first actor to appear on stage in 530 B.C. He acted by stepping out of the chorus and speaking alone.

Thespis Thespis supposedly invented a new style of theater called tragedy. One actor or singer would perform the words of the characters in the stories with the help of masks.

Dithyramb The Dithyramb is also known as the chorus, which consists up to 50 men or boys singing hymns to praise the god of wine, Dionysus.

The Role of Masks Masks were commonly used by an actor to portray many characters in a play.

Masks Each mask used in a play has a different facial feature to show off the desired personality or emotion at a certain point.
