Scientific Notation Ms. A. Trevino

Scientific Notation The form that you usually write numbers in is standard notation. A number is in scientific notations when it is in the form, where and n is an integer.

The format for writing a number in scientific notation is fairly simple: (first digit of the number) followed by (the decimal point) and then (all the rest of the digits of the number), times (10 to an appropriate power).

Write 124 in scientific notation × 10 2

Write in scientific notation × 10 –11

Convert to scientific notation 5.78 × 10 –9

Convert 93,000,000 to scientific notation 9.3 × 10 7

Simplify and express in scientific notation: (2.6 × 10 5 ) (9.2 × 10 –13 ) × 10 –7

Simplify and express in scientific notation: (1.247 × 10 –3 ) ÷ (2.9 × 10 –2 ) 4.3 × 10 –2

Simplify and express in scientific notation: (2.6 × 10 2 )

Simplify and express in scientific notation: (3.41 × )
