History In 1533 Francisco Pizarro, a Spanish conquistador, colonized Peru. Peru was the home of the Incas. It was the riches of the Inca empire that drew the Spaniards to Peru. There were highly developed cultures flourishing in Peru long before the rise of the Inca Empire. Evidence of such early civilizations include the old temple complexes at the site of Caral (3000 to 1800 BC), excellent stone carvings, ceramics, metallurgy (copper, gold and silver), temples and pyramids from the Chavin Cult (1000 BC to 200 BC) and well preserved pottery and textiles from the Paracas and Nasca Cultures (200 BC to 700 AD). Also around the same time the Moche culture produced high quality pottery on which intricate details of their life were painted.

Music Peruvian music has distinguished fame among people. Union and merging of sounds, themes and styles are the basic recognition of the Peruvian music Music in Peru includes Andean music, Afro music and different styles such as Huayno, Marinera, etc. Peru musical influence and instruments can be traced back to cultures established before the Incas dominance period in the 1400´s.

Peruvian Food Peruvian cuisine reflects local practices and ingredients, including influences from the Incas and cuisines brought in with immigrants such as Spanish, Chinese, Italian, German, and Japanese cuisine. Without the familiar ingredients from their home countries, immigrants modified their traditional cuisines by using ingredients available in Peru. The three traditional kinds of Peruvian cuisine are corn, potatoes, and chili peppers. Ingredients brought by the Spanish include rice, wheat and meats. Many traditional foods, such as quinoa, kaniwa, varieties of chili peppers, and several roots and tubers have increased in popularity in recent decades, reflecting a revival of interest in native Peruvian foods and culinary techniques.
