Bretford Laptop Cart

About the Cart?  Each cart is numbered  Contain 30 Dell laptops  2 wireless access points mounted on each cart.

A combination lock is required to unlock the cart. Do not share this information with students or non-RPS personnel. Refer to locks document if assistance is needed.

Laptop Labels Laptops are all labeled with the cart number and the position # in the cart.

Positioning in the cart Shelved are also labeled. Make sure laptops are always returned to correct position and correct cart.

Power packs are attached to each laptop. Power strips are attached to charge power packs. E xtended batteries will be provided for one 5 th grade class for writing test period (move from room-to- room) Do not unplug from the power strip.

Cart Guidelines  Only teacher(s) should remove and return laptops to the cart.  Always shut down laptops before returning them to the carts.  Always plug Carts into an electrical outlet for charging.  Access points also need to be plugged in when laptops are in use by students.

Mobile Lab Safety Tips  Students should never move the Mobile Lab from one location in the building to another.  Turn Cart OFF before plugging cart into the electrical outlet.  Plug Cart directly into wall electrical outlet, not a power strip.  When laptops are not in use they should be stored in cart and be charging for next use.

Laptops in Students’ Hands  Fill out Student “ Laptop Sign Out Chart ” individual checking out / assigning of laptops to students. (once!)  “Generic” signing is suggested.  If Cart is to be shared with other classroom teacher(s), use MySignUp.com ( online calendar). handout

Laptops to Students Students are to use “3 point hold” while handling a laptop: 2 hands holding laptop against body. Laptops and shelves are numbered, with cart letter first, then laptop number. Students should use the same laptop each time.

Student Rules for laptop use  Student Guidelines document (review and/or sign)  Teachers will receive a copy of the Student Powerpoint & should use it to teach their students appropriate use of laptops & carts.  Must be used the FIRST time you use the cart with your students, this will BE the lesson.

Teacher Guidelines  Classroom teacher(s) are pivotal to the success of the process.  Teachers’ obligations are governed by the Mobile Device Procedures and Acceptance Form. (sign)  Must be housed in assigned 3-5 grade level classrooms. The teacher whose classroom houses the cart, is the party ultimately responsible for its care.

Teacher Guidelines “exercise appropriate professional judgment and common sense when using the District’s mobile devices and computers.” “Staff members will not be held responsible for computer problems resulting from regular school-related use; however, staff members will be held personally responsible for any problems caused by their negligence.

Substitutes & Laptop Carts Teachers should NOT schedule a Laptop Cart when a sub is in the classroom. Subs do not have training on the proper use of the Cart, and students are more likely to do damage to a laptop or go to inappropriate websites. Do not put use of mobile carts in EMERGENCY lesson plans or regular lesson plans for a sub.
