1. His Persistent Cry and Call for help. 1:2 The Prevailing Circumstances. 1:3 a. Iniquity (injustice, wrongdoing) and Grievance (trouble, wrong) Abound. b. Spoiling (destruction) and violence Around. Destruction” (šōḏ,) = “violent treatment causing desolation” Violence (ḥāmās) = “malicious” conduct intended to injure another c. Strife and Contention (conflict) Among the people.

Therefore Justice never Prevails and the Law is Paralyzed. 1:4, NIV Paralyzed: lit., “becomes cool, numbed” b. Therefore, Justice is Perverted – the wicked hem in the righteous. 1:4, NIV perverted (from ‛āqal, “to bend or twist out of shape,” a word used only here in the OT). With wicked men in power, justice was twisted and turned till it came out injustice!
