Chapter 4 The Composition of Solutions
Expressing Solubility M = Molarity = moles solute / liters of solution
Ex - Calculate the molarity of a solution made by dissolving 23.4 g Na 2 SO 4 in enough water to form 125 mL of solution.
Ex - What are the concentrations of each ion in the last example?
Ex - How many grams of Na 2 SO 4 are required to make L of M Na 2 SO 4
A solution of precisely known concentration is called a standard solution. Standard solutions can be made 2 ways: from the solid - the solute is added to the flask and water is added to the line on the flask by dilution - a solution is added to the flask and water is added to further dilute the solution
For dilution: moles of solute before dilution = moles of solute after dilution. M 1 V 1 = M 2 V 2 Ex - How much 3.0 M H 2 SO 4 would be required to make 500 mL of 0.10 M H 2 SO 4 ?
