5 Activities R & D-assignments -nuclear power plants -fusion reactors -health physics -thermo hydraulics -transmutation -waste management -waste characterisation -design and operation -efficiency performance -health physics -radiation and environment environment-non-nuclear applications (e.g. NORM) applications (e.g. NORM) Services and consultancy 13 M€ 8 M€ (MEA) 14 M€ 5 M€ Production of Isotopes -medical -industrial

6 Needs The Netherlands: Highly populated; Highly industrialised; About 30% is below see level; High ground water velocity; Contaminated sites needs to be remediated so that they can be reused for as much purposes as possible, preferable unrestricted reuse. There is a constant need for new proven/validated remediation techniques.

7 Offer: EURSSEM European Radiation Survey and Site Execution Manual EURSSEM (1st version) has been established within the 6th EC Framework project “Coordination Network on Decommissioning (CND)”. The CND project officially ended 31 June The European Radiation Survey and Site Execution Manual (EURSSEM) has been developed to provide a consistent consensus approach and guidance to conduct all actions at radioactively contaminated and potentially radioactively contaminated sites and/or groundwater up to their release for restricted or unrestricted (re)use.

8 Offer: EURSSEM Approach: -Service point of view, document free of names/pointers to commercial organizations, governmental regulations, etc. -Leading strategies, leading practical option(s), etc.; all strategies, practical options ….. no judging. -Applicable for all stakeholders involved in processes to remediate or restore radioactively contaminated sites for restricted or unrestricted (re)use. Combining (leading) literature: -IAEA; Member states – consensus- -MARSSIM (2002); Regulator/Agencies US -CIRIA Safegrounds Nuclear Industry and Defense sites - UK Learning Network: -ITRC; Interstate Techn. & Research Council - US -EPA Environmental Protection Agency – US -Diverse Publications
