Dividing Decimals that Terminate Section (3 – 4)

Vocabulary Quotient – means the answer to a division problem. Divisor – the number you are dividing by. (outside the sign) Dividend – the number you are dividing. (under the sign) Online Explanation

Rules for dividing decimals Rule 1: the divisor may NEVER be a decimal. It must be a whole number! Rule 2: if you move the decimal in the divisor, you MUST move the decimal in the dividend the SAME number of places. Rule 3: after moving the decimal in the dividend, shift the decimal UP into your answer, immediately. Rule 4: don’t stop dividing until you reach the decimal or go past the decimal.

Example 2 – – –11 0

Terminating? Simply means that you will have no remainder Practice 51.2 ÷ 16 = ÷ 7.5 = 6.3 x 8 ÷ 11.2 =
