Rules for dividing decimals Rule 1: the divisor may NEVER be a decimal. It must be a whole number! Rule 2: if you move the decimal in the divisor, you MUST move the decimal in the dividend the SAME number of places. Rule 3: after moving the decimal in the dividend, shift the decimal UP into your answer, immediately. Rule 4: don’t stop dividing until you reach the decimal or go past the decimal.
