Opinion essay - structure TITLE “Discuss the importance of English language in our society” Paragraph 1: introduction. Introduce the topic in a general way. Give your opinion in the last sentence. Look at the example below. Nowadays speaking a foreign language is very relevant in our society. It´s the most useful way to find a job, travel or meet foreign people. As I see it, being proficient in English is one of the most important things in life.

Paragraph 2: body. Support your ideas with facts or examples Paragraph 2: body. Support your ideas with facts or examples. Look at the example below and notice the use of linkers. To begin with, if you speak English well, it will be easier for you to have possibilities in the job market. For example, in any job advertisement on the newspaper, English is a requirement. In addition, it is spoken as a second language in most countries, so speaking English, allows you to travel anywhere in the world. In my opinion, that gives you both the chance of learning about other cultures and making new friends.

Paragraph 3: conclusion. Sum up and restate your opinion Paragraph 3: conclusion. Sum up and restate your opinion. Have a look at the example below. To sum up, it seems clear that English is a necessary tool in everyone´s life. It´s useful both for people´s personal lives and careers. It seems to me that being proficient in English is a must in our society nowadays.

After you write: • Have you checked your spelling? • Do all your verbs and subjects agree? • Have you checked for any missing words? • Have you checked your word order? • Have you used the correct tenses? • Do your paragraphs link clearly?
