Politics ● In 1843, he served as a delegate for the Democratic National Convention ● In 1845, Davis was elected into US House of Representatives ● In 1847, he was appointed senator of Mississippi ● Advocated for states’ rights and slavery ● In 1853, appointed secretary of war but later returned to senate, and later left when Mississippi left the Union ● In 1861, he was made Pres. of Confederacy
