What is “COLLECT”? COLLECT = “College Libraries Central” Launched in 2014 as a pilot project Repository of bibliographic metadata for the holdings of Ontario’s 24 publicly-funded community college libraries Runs on VTLS’ (now Innovative Interfaces Inc.) VITAL software Publicly accessible Features link-back capability to direct a user to the record at item’s home library
Pilot Project Objectives Determine how COLLECT holdings can be made discoverable through the discovery layers of each college library. Can COLLECT holdings be harvested to discovery layers at the colleges? (i.e. will VITAL play well with others?) What is the viability of integrating objects from other VITAL-based repositories (e.g. eBook records, digital objects, etc.) with these discovery layer systems?

Working with EBSCO Catalog & Metadata Specialists Creating a custom catalog with COLLECT data Will index COLLECT holdings through: -Z OAI-PMH -Screen-scraping Many integration options possible How: EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS)
EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS)
Content in Summon is either ingested and indexed, or it must be linked to from Summon Summon doesn’t reach out (e.g. with Z39.50 or OAI-PMH); it links out Creating and monitoring automated processes to: How: ProQuest Summon + We’re going to link out to COLLECT Extract COLLECT records Transfer file(s) Upload and index to Summon = Cumbersome
ProQuest Summon
Currently underway; exploratory project with no determined deadline, expected August 2015 EDS creating custom catalog to demo integration Pursuing Summon “hacking” options Working with libraries, EDS, Summon, and III Timeline and Status
