Endorsements An endorsement is a statement appearing on a certificate that identifies the specific subjects (at various grade levels) that the certificate holder is authorized to teach Will all meet requirements for at least one HS and one MG endorsement (some will meet requirements for more than one middle grade endorsement). Subsequent endorsements require additional coursework in a specific content area and, perhaps, a test.

–Can acquire Endorsements at time of initial certification if requirements are met (through COTE) or –Later (through ISBE-for a fee) –Recommend you get them through us if possible. Additional fees if you assessed later through ISBE ISBE completes their own audit –may or may not count courses we do

Endorsements (cont’d) High School endorsements (outside of major) –Requirements vary depending on endorsement Typically 24 hours of coursework with 12 upper-level (300+) Some exceptions – Science, Social Science, ESL, Bilingual, Foreign Language

Endorsements (cont’d) Science and Social Science (9-12) Separate and distinct endorsements. With a few exceptions courses for one don’t count toward other. Science designations: Biology, Chemistry, Earth & Space Science, Environmental Science, Physics Social Science designations: History, Psychology, Economics, Geography, Political Science, Sociology/Anthropology No stipulation that courses must be “upper level”
