Specifics This is a Trip of a Lifetime –Shakedowns = MUST ATTEND –Other Crew Activities = Good for Teambuilding –Medical Forms = Submitted in March –Advisors MUST attend Advisor Shakedown

DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS “Verbal Warning” – private and personal – use while the conduct is still at the “mild annoyance” phase –Can be administered by the individual crew advisors “Jail Time” – deprivation of privileges – use when minor infractions are repeated after “verbal warnings,” or for moderately serious misconduct –e.g., Doing intentional minor harm to another member; intentional failure to follow direct adult instructions; causing inconvenience to the rest of the crew or contingent –Can be administered by individual crew advisors, but should be discussed with the Contingent Leader in more serious cases “Life Without Parole” – withholding of Arrowhead Patch – for serious misconduct issues while on the trail, which causes the member to fail to complete the trek –Contingent Leader makes the initial decision, referring to the Chairman, HAC for discussion and final decision by NCAC professional staff “Death Penalty” – immediate return home at family’s expense – imminent danger to another, violation of drug/alcohol rules, etc. –Can only be imposed by the Contingent Leader with the specific approval of the Chairman, HAC, and NCAC professional staff

APPEARANCE We are on an official Boy Scout activity We are members of a team (just like a sports team) We wear the appropriate uniform properly, and proudly General Rules: –Class “A” uniform – for airline travel and evening meals – also upon arrival at Philmont on first day Proper uniform pants (with belt), or shorts with Scout socks, and appropriate uniform shirt No neckerchief or other neckware required Hat acceptable as long as it is not inappropriate to the uniform No merit badge or OA sashes, medals, etc. – keep patches basic Tennis shoes and white or Scout socks acceptable No knives – even in the pockets –Class “B” uniform – for bus travel, sightseeing Official contingent T-shirt replaces uniform shirt Only the Contingent Leader can adjust the uniform requirements to meet unusual requirements Individual crew advisors cannot adjust uniform requirements for their crews without the approval of the Contingent Leader
