Senses & Measurement  Measuring Tools extend the accuracy and safety of taking measurements  It’s hot  It’s 188º Celcius  It’s not that heavy  It weighs 15 grams  It’s 12 steps long  It’s 14 meters

History of Measurement  Some older cultures used measurements that were convenient or that were tied to the measurement of a kings body part (like a hand or foot)  Examples  An exotic spice may actually be worth its weight in gold  5 grams of spice = 5 grams of gold  Eventually the units became standardized so that a meter is the same distance in any country

Units  Mass  Ounces, Pounds  Grams (SI)  Temperature  Farenheit  Celcius (SI)  Kelvin (SI)

Units (Cont.)  Hotness (Like Chili Peppers)  Scoville Scale  Length  Feet & Inches  Meters (SI)
