What do YOU think? Brainstorm with a partner: Who are some of the most famous and respected public speakers in your home culture (alive today or from history)? What made them so compelling? What kind of school or business presentations have you enjoyed listening to (think about what made them interesting and compelling)? What kinds of presenter behavior make you feel bored in a presentation?

Characteristics of Good Presentations Share what you have enjoyed or found interesting… Share what you find boring in presentations… How can you use your past experiences as an AUDIENCE MEMBER to help you become a better public speaker?

Elements of a Good Presentation You and your partner will receive one characteristic. Try to write a clear, specific definition. What does it mean? How can we be sure to do it well? Give some examples…   Write a definition of your characteristic… Give specific examples Focused, clearly-developed topic Clear speech—pronunciation, pacing, volume Understanding your audience Speaking not reading!
