Technology Traditional Kinect Based Therapy Exercises Patient have the option to do typical therapy exercise that would normally be performed at an in-office session Kinect will collect and record the patient’s motions and will give feedback in real time Games Range of type of games will vary by area of the body targeted type of game exercises performed Games will sequentially increase in difficulty Can be assigned by physical therapist as part of patient’s rehabilitation Benefits Assigning at-home exercises Views Kinect recorded scores including accuracy data Physical therapist can give tips, change exercises, and coach a patient at any point Patient can ask about or express concerns about any exercise between in-office sessions Artificial Intelligence provides immediate feedback and encouragement to the user Automatic feedback immediately informs the patients if they are exercising incorrectly and guide them how to correctly perform the exercise This not only preventions injuries, but helps the patient feel more confident with their at-home physical therapy The view from the camera without any analysis, transformed with analysis into the depth image into the skeletal view. Field of View of Kinect Camera Equations to calculate accuracy of patient performing exercise Camera Motion sensing camera uses infrared light patterns to produce a 3D image of the patient Depth sensor can record distances 0m to 4m away from the sensor Uses algorithms to produce a skeletal image that is used to compare with the preprogrammed positions for each exercise Camera is able to sense any color or texture Limitations Depth sensing cameras which utilize infrared lighting can be distorted by environmental factors such as shiny metal, bright lights or windows Accuracy Comparing skeletal data to the standard skeletal data that was previously programmed using programmed equations The difference corresponds to the accuracy of the patient – a small difference means a high accuracy Interface Feedback Role of the Physical Therapist Sustainability Equipment such as Kinect and televisions are commonly found in homes today or are easily available Increases quality of life by decreasing travel time and cost of physical therapy and gas Research on the Kinect for physical therapy has grown exponentially since its release The Kinect is a universal tool due to the ability to accurately detect all body type and weights Save time traveling to and from physical therapist Costs of physical therapy decreases due to the decrease in number of required sessions Physical therapist can monitor patient’s at home exercises
