Grundtvig Workshop GRU-12-GRAT-13-DJ “Colourful ageing: storytelling, social media and volunteering activities” 23 rd -29 th June, 2013 Craiova, Romania Welcome!!!

Aim The aim of the project is to promote active aging among 50+ generation and to support social reintegration of already retired people by means of using modern ICT tools and involvement in volunteer activities. Learning how to use social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Skype and blogs) is very important in the current society, especially for communication with peers and the young generations. In order to prevent passivity or social exclusion after/during retirement, participants will learn the importance of building social networks and doing volunteering activities.

Objectives -to boost learners’ motivation to be active and to express their personal interests with peers and other generations; - to prevent the social isolation by using social media to create online and offline social networks; - to raise awareness of the value of active ageing by tangible involvement in volunteering activities; - to promote adaptation to the current trends in the society and the solidarity between generations through inter-generational education of modern ICT tools; - to improve the digital competences (facebook, skype, blog, editing images) of learners.

The methodology behind… Storytelling as a method of teaching/learning Each adult will be teamed a young volunteer (based on criteria such as language, common interests and other similarities etc.). The dyads will go together in the city center, where the young volunteers will present the cultural heritage of Craiova to the participants. During the five 5 working days, the technical workshops will be alternated with storytelling activities done together with the young volunteers. The activities done together with the young people will be framed as a type of volunteering. The personalization of the Memory Box will play a very important role in the storytelling process because it will combine artistic expression of memories and feelings with verbal storytelling.

Activities Workshops By the end of the workshop, the participants will have updated Facebook and LinkedIn profiles, a personal blog and will know how to use them and Skype in order to expand their online social network by searching for people and groups with similar personal interests.
