Responsibilities Description of Duties

As library aide, you will have certain duties to perform each day. Some of these duties will be shared by all, and others will be yours alone. The grade you receive in this class will be based upon your knowledge and performance of those duties and your willingness to work with others. I will consider the first six weeks a training period after which you will be expected to perform your tasks without being told to do so. Never hesitate to ask questions about anything you do not understand.

Description of Duties Put on Library Aide nametag upon arrival. Remove nametag at the end of the period. (you many not keep your nametag throughout the day) Place your belongings in the workroom under the big table. The circulation counter should never be cluttered with textbooks and papers.

Make sure all computers are on. (first period aides) Shut down computers and monitors except on Tuesdays when we turn off the monitors only. (7 th period aides or as needed)

Check “Date Due” gun – set date to the current due date in Destiny. (first period aides) Check in all books in the book drop (all aides). (See Destiny Training Link)

Check out books as needed. (all aides) See Destiny Training Link. Shelve books – It is very important to be accurate since books shelved in the wrong location or essentially “lost” until someone stumbles across them. All aides are responsible for keeping books put away throughout the period.

Perform shelf checks on assigned shelves. Process periodicals and new books (see New Materials Link) Maintain computers in the General Access Labs

Clear the circulation counter at the end of the period. No trash, notes, etc. should remain for the next group to have to clean up. Perform other tasks as tuaght and required by librarian.

Assist students and teachers as needed. Conduct quality and friendly Reference Interviews. Obey rules of conduct at all times. The same rules apply to you that apply to all other students. Aides who take advantage of their position will be asked to get a schedule change.

Remember These duties are required. After the first six weeks we will expect you to understand them and perform them without being told or reminded. We are very serious about customer service, you must respect each patron that walks through the door. Do not argue with patrons, instead get Mrs. Pennington or Mrs. Stevens’ assistance.
