Giving Back to the Community Nicole Payne

Volunteer Work I completed my service learning through three very important volunteer based programs. I was a part of the Habitat team to help build a new home. I washed cars to raise money for the American Heart Association. I also helped sort and clean cans at the Food Bank. This experience taught me a lot more about these very important places that would not be possible without the help of volunteers and I am proud that I was able to do my part in giving back to the community.

Habitat For Humanity Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing organization. Since 1976, Habitat has built more than 175, 000 houses, providing shelter for nearly 900,000 people worldwide. Now at work in 100 countries, we are building a house every 26 minutes. By 2005, Habitat houses will be sheltering 1 million people. Homeowner families are chosen according to their need; their ability to repay the no-profit, no-interest mortgage; and their willingness to work in partnership with Habitat. Habitat for Humanity does not discriminate according to race, religion or ethnic group.

Habitat Pictures Lisa and I spent the day hammering nails into boards to form walls. That would soon support a new home!

FYE CARWASH We washed cars to benefit the American Heart Association! Congenital Heart Disease affects 40,000 babies per year We raised 500 dollars and this will be given in John Bailey Davis’s name Matt and Theresa Davis lost John Bailey Davis at the age of 3 months After this tragedy they were determined to raise money to prevent this from happening to another family.

FYE CARWASH PIC’S Johnny, Tonya, and Me take a break from the carwash to pose for a picture. We had a great time raising money for such a wonderful cause!!

Food Bank America's Second Harvest is the largest domestic hunger-relief organization in the United States. The America's Second Harvest mission is to feed hungry people by soliciting and distributing food and grocery products through a nationwide network of certified affiliate food banks and to educate the public about the nature of and solutions to the problem of hunger in America. Providing cases of donated food to nonprofit agencies in Georgia. We annually distribute over 7 million pounds of food each year to over 300 nonprofit member agencies. Volunteers at the Valdosta Food Bank are making a difference every day. Through their efforts, America's Second Harvest of South Georgia helps provide more than 96,000 meals per year to approximately 63,000 people throughout southern Georgia.
