Aphid- adult stage Small Soft-bodied Size of a pinhead Usually green or yellow Pear shaped Secrete a honeydew sticky substance Promotes blk, sooty mold on plants

Fungus Gnat- adult stage Small, delicate bodied flies 1/8 inch long Black flies, black wings and antennae “Y” shaped pattern on forewings Develop in growing medium of household plants

Leaf Miner- adult stage Known usually as moths, sawflies and flies Some beetles and wasps exhibit behavior Feed on leaves Made tunnel like pictures on their leaves as they eat away at them

Mealybug- adult stage Appear on plants in colonies of white masses Have small ridges on their bodies Small white spines that radiate outward Live along stems & underside of leaves Feed on sap Secrete honeydew sticky substance Cause plants to fade to yellow

Scale- adult stage Small, oblong insects Hard, turtle-shaped bodies Have brown or blk raised lumps Attach to stems and underside of leaves Feed on sap Cause plant growth to decrease and leaves to yellow and fall off

Snail/Slug- adult stage Glide along their plants leaving a silvery mucous slime trail Chew irregular holes with smooth edges on leaves Can chew fruit and plant bark Love to feed on low growing plants

Spider Mite- adult stage Tiny, almost microscopic Appear as small specks on undersides of young leaves. Red, green or white in color Suck on sap causing gray spots on leaves Leaves fade to yellow and distort Webs are visible on plant

Thrip- adult stage Tiny, brown, fly-like Found in flowers of plants Slender with 4 very slender fringed wings Highly mobile and difficult to see They chew surface of plant & suck juices Plant dries out & turns white & speckled Leaf undersides have blk spots, tips wither

Whitefly- adult stage Small, snow-white 4 winged Highly mobile Feed on leaf undersides Suck sap causing plant to wilt, yellow and die

Anthracnose- damage Most visible on leaves and ripe fruit Small irregular yellow, brown, dark-brown or black spots but can lead to coverage of a whole area Can cause cankers and rot fruits/veg.

Black Spot- damage Affects rose plants Appears on lower branches and spreads upwards Leaves turn yellow and fall off

Botrytis- damage Generalized symptoms include a gray to brown discoloration, water soaking, and a fuzzy whitish gray to tan mold (mycelium and spores) growing on the surface of affected areas.

Damping off- damage Poor, uneven standing of seedlings Lesions at or below the soil line Seedling will discolor/wilt suddenly/collapse and die

Mosaic Virus- damage alternating spots of yellowish and light/dark green leaves Leaves can appear thicker and somewhat elevated giving a blister-like appearance. curling and yellowing of the leaves, stunted growth, and malformed fruit

Powdery Mildew- damage Typically white or gray & stays on the surface Stunting or distortion of leaves, buds, growing tips and fruit Yellowing of leaves, premature leaf drop General decline in the growth Common House plants affected: African violet & begonia; Outdoor plants: lilac, phlox & some rose varieties
