Presentation transcript:

A crime was recently committed but remains… Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to identify the TYPES of clues a detective could use to help solve the crime. UNSOLVED!

THINK like a detective and write what you would do to solve a crime. PAIR with the person next to you to discuss your ideas. SHARE the ideas that were similar with the entire class.

3 Types of Clues Visual clues = pictures Verbal clues = dialogue/conversation Informational clues = narration

Good Readers…. Use clues to help figure out information when reading.

“Boy am I glad I listened to the radio this afternoon!” Joe’s sweater came in handy at the game.

Why is Joe glad that he listened to the radio? What did he hear? Where is Joe (be specific)? How do you know?

Did you Solve the Crime? Joe is glad because he heard a weather report that helped him be prepared with his sweater for the cold temperature Joe is at an outdoor sporting event such as football or soccer because he wouldn't need a sweater if he was at a basketball game which is held inside.

Making Inferences Good Readers make inferences when they read to help better understand a story.

Just like a detective, use clues such as pictures dialogue narratives to help you figure out what is happening when you are reading.
