Today’s Objectives: Exposure to the CSEFEL Pyramid Model Discover CSEFEL inspired activities and props for the learning environment Find ways to incorporate these materials and activities into your own curriculum Explore some additional ways to create a calmer environment Share success and challenges with other educators

The Pyramid Model

The Pyramid from the Foundation Up An Effective Workforce – positive relationships with children, families and colleagues. Nurturing and Responsive Relationships among adults and children is essential High Quality, early childhood environments promote positive outcomes for all children Targeted Social Emotional Supports – systematic approaches to teaching social skills can have a preventative and remedial effect Intensive Intervention (Top of the Pyramid) – assessment based intervention that results in individualized behavior support plans

Hmmm. Where did we see this before? Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs…not the same, but related.

The Tools:  Visual Schedule  Visual Rules  Solution Wall  Feelings Chart  Alone Space - with or without Tucker  Scripted Stories  Stoplights and Shining Stars  Buckets  Book Nook  Fun & Games (matching/bingo)

The Importance of Visuals  Why words are not enough  Schedule ideas  Remember, it’s not just a decoration  The Golden Rules – teach them to EVERYONE  Solution Wall, or bracelet, or book – What’s your choice?  Feelings Board – ways to use it  Do you have a cozy corner?  Red, Yellow, Green and Shining Stars  Bucket Fillers and Bucket Dippers  Books, and games  Time Timer

Putting it all together Red Light Warning – this only works if you take them OFF of red – Feed the meter – acknowledge positive change and MOVE them back to yellow/green Fill the Transition Void…or expect Trouble! Some of our ideas….some of your ideas…A Brain Storm for the ages! Do you use small groups? How do we fit our Social Emotional skills building into a multi-disciplinary lesson plan? A sample plan…. A blank slate – for you to create Some Plugs – #1 A Full CSEFEL training, #2 Playmakers, #3 the CSEFEL website, #4 kid’s yoga and #5 Brain Gym

Bucket Books This book is easier for preschoolers… …But this was the original.
