 Businesses are split into different sectors, these include;  Public Sector- These are businesses run by the Government.  Private Sector- These are businesses set up by a private individual/ group of individuals  Voluntary Businesses- These are businesses that are set up to help others.

 Within each sector there are a range of different businesses  NHS  Police  Fire Service

 The private sector is split into different types of businesses, ranging from small to large. Each type of business has different characteristics.  PLCs  Sole Traders  Ltd  Franchise  Partnerships

 What is the main reason the business exists?  What is the businesses main activity?  To make a profit- McDonalds/ garage  To provide a service- NHS/ POLICE/ FIRE SERVICE  To help others- cancer research/ British heart foundation/ NSPCC
