Eleanor Harris and Wladyslaw Kluzek By Paige Mann History

Eleanor and Wladyslaw Eleanor and Wladyslaw met during WW2. In 1944, soon after they met, they got married and had two kids (Janian and Angela). Eleanor was born on the 09/07/1924 in Scotland and Wladyslaw was born on the 16/04/1916 in Poland.

Why did they move to Australia? Eleanor and Wladyslaw and there 2 kids (Janian and Angela) where given the chance to work in Australia. An Australian dairy farm sponsored them to come to Australia so they could work there. So after they heard the news the got packed and where ready to go they left on the 14th of February 1950 at 7:40pm.

What transport did they use to get here? The Kluzek family travelled to Australia by a ship. They stopped and travelled past many Islands and places such as Africa, Egypt and the rock Gibraltar.

Where did they work? Eleanor use to work for the RWAF( Royal Women's Air Force)as ground staff. Wladyslaw worked for the Polish army. They both left their jobs to go to Australia to become dairy farm workers.

How do they find the weather in Australia? The Kluzek family found Australia hot and sweaty they found the weather unpleasing and wanted the opportunity to go back to their country(Scotland).

How do they like their job in Australia? Instead of dairy farming a day after they arrived In Australia, Wladyslaw found himself clearing bush land. With blisters on his hands he only got paid $10.00 a week (which is 5 pounds in their money).

Do they like Australia? The Kluzek family found Australia’s weather hot and unpleasant. Their jobs were different than what they where told, and they said that they would like to move back to Scotland.

When did they get transport? Soon after they arrived and had met their sponsors, they settled into their new home in Gippsland, an unfinished and primitive house with no running water. Soon after Wlatyslaw bought a new car for 108 pounds or $216 in our money. After they bought the car they discussed whether it was the right choice because it had tightened their finances.

In the end! Eleanor and Wladyslaw went on to have 4 more children. By the mid-1970s they owned their own farm and had shown that they were yet another immigration success.

Thank you for watching and listening!
