Warmup 11/9/15 Christians say that the Bible is the Word of God. What do you think this means? To learn more about graphing rational functions pp 219: 2, 3, 5, 8 Objective Tonight’s Homework

Notes on Graphing Functions III We’ve talked quite a bit about sketching graphs of rational functions. We’re going to add one piece today.

Notes on Graphing Functions III We’ve talked quite a bit about sketching graphs of rational functions. We’re going to add one piece today. Compare: y = 4 _ (x-2) 4 _ (x-2) 2

Notes on Graphing Functions III We’ve talked quite a bit about sketching graphs of rational functions. We’re going to add one piece today. Compare: y = 4 _ (x-2) 4 _ (x-2) 2

Notes on Graphing Functions III We’ve talked quite a bit about sketching graphs of rational functions. We’re going to add one piece today. Compare: y = The one on the left is familiar, the one on the right is new. 4 _ (x-2) 4 _ (x-2) 2

Notes on Graphing Functions III So our summary is quick. If we have a factor to an even power on the denominator, the function won’t change from positive to negative or negative to positive across an asymptote. Instead, the function will stay on the same side of the x-axis across the asymptote.

Group Practice Look at the example problems on pages 217 and 218. Make sure the examples make sense. Work through them with a friend. Then look at the homework tonight and see if there are any problems you think will be hard. Now is the time to ask a friend or the teacher for help! pp 219: 2, 3, 5, 8

Exit Question What would y = (x+2) 2 /(x+2) 2 look like? a) A straight horizontal line b) A straight vertical line c) It would be positive d) It would be negative e) A point f) None of the above
