Spain By. Matt McNerney

What are they called? The people in Spain are often called, Spainards.

Unique Dishes One of the dishes that are unique for Spain is the Tortilla Espanola - Which is basically a Spanish Omelet, made of eggs, potatoes and onions. Another unique dish is the Taella de Marisco - Spanish Seafood Rice. Paella Valenciana originated in the fields of Valencia, where country folk mixed rice with rabbit etc…

Cont… Finally, another unique dish is tapas. Tapas are served in taverns all over Spain are also National dishes. Tapas are basically snacks, canapes or finger food. Tapas can be practically anything from a chunk of tuna, cocktail onion and an olive skewered on a long toothpick to meat with sauce served piping hot in a miniature clay dish. They are served day in and day out in every bar and cafe in Spain.

Cont… Another unique drink for Spain is Horchata. This delicious non-alcoholic drink has a very long history dating back to the period of Moorish rule in the area of Valencia. Its name comes from a Catalonian word ordiata, which means nade from barley, although barley has never been one of its ingredients. You can have rice added into it. It can be found in supermarkets.

Drinks Wine is the most consumed drink in Spain. Sangria, next to flamenco and corrida, is one of the symbols of Spain. It is an indispensable element of every Spanish fiesta. It is made from red wine combined with some other spirits, such as brandy or whiskey. It is usually served with cut apples, oranges and peaches.
