PIDP 3260 Assignment #5 Feedback Strategies Digital Project By Mark McGregor Instructor: Karen Brooke

What is an ultimate strategy that provides feedback to your classroom delivery and instructor effectiveness

Record your lesson delivery on videotape or on DVD

How? 1.Turn the lights on in your classroom 2.Use an inexpensive digital camera set on wide angle 3.Action! Deliver your lesson as you normally do.

Pros 1.Deeper self-reflection 2.More meaningful observation 3.More targeted and beneficial professional development 4.Students see their teacher model self-assessment skills.

Miriam Greenburg- Project Director at Harvard’s Center for Education Policy Research “Teachers got more from the feedback they got, and trusted it more,” Greenberg says. “This process is really professionalizing and exciting for teachers who are seeing themselves grow.”

Cons 1.We are our own worst critics 2.Teachers must feel a level of safety and trust with their colleagues 3. Some basic camera and computer technical skills are required.

“Watching yourself on screen is always a little weird, but I didn't cringe when I saw myself on 'The Hour.' It actually exceeded my expectations; every shot looks like a vintage postcard and even my most brutally honest friends have said they think it's good.” Oona Chaplin

7 Best Practices for Video Self-assessment 1.Students’ engagement and expressions 2.Enthusiasm 3. Delivery 4. Organization 5. Classroom management 6. Question and Answers 7. Clarity.

Reflection and Other Tips 1.Reflect on your three best observations 2.Reflect on your three growth points 3.Review the recording when you are relaxed 4.Ask a trusted peer to review your recording with you 5.Save old recordings as a benchmark with new recordings.

Call to Next week have confidence in yourself to video record one of your classroom lessons Go to your IT or Learning Innovation Department and request for a digital camera Put on the lights, turn on the camera, and record the action! Make some popcorn and enjoy a cold beverage as you reflect on your self-evaluation.
