No Sanitation Dangerous terrain/wildlife Malnutrition Evidence of Rickets (bone deformities) from low vitamin D Very low life expectancy (25-40 years) Little resources Poor knowledge of pathogens

Active with relatively healthy diet Disease spread slowly: No trade Disease killed host before it was able to spread No pollution

Herbal Meds Clay to set broken or fractured bones Tree sap to treat burns Orchid bulbs for stomach aches Surgeries Supernatural treatment such as charms, spells, and amulets

Stone age people lived in family groups Members would see the same people everyday It was very rare for two different family groups to meet Air-borne diseases stayed contained in a family group However infections from wounds were very common

Surgery that was carried out by shaman Consisted of cutting a hole into the skull Believed to relieve people of evil spirits Failure=spirit too strong Despite medical inappropriateness, most survived Some even showed signs of healing

Very spiritual, believed in spirit world Natural explanations for everything Good spirit cause good things like rain and food Bad spirit cause bad things like disease “Cures” were usually supernatural ones

Flints Arrowheads Spears

No significant people reported How ever there were three groups of people Homo Erectus- 1.8 million years to 300,000 years ago Neanderthals- 400,000 years ago to 30,000 years ago Homo Sapiens (Modern Humans)- 150,000 years ago to present day

No one knew about pathogens They just stayed away from another person who was ill If an illness was severe enough the tribesman would kill the sick

The men would go hunting The women would stay with the children The men would likely get hurt hunting (broken bones etc.) The women would get many joint problems that modern body builders get Women who would grind corn or wheat would develop Deltoid Tuberosities
