The General Rule..... The choice of subjects should include those subjects; Which are required/necessary to get into your daughter’s intended course(s) or career. Which are required/necessary to get into your daughter’s intended course(s) or career. Which she is interested in and prepared to work at… a particular grade at a particular level may be required. Which she is interested in and prepared to work at… a particular grade at a particular level may be required. Which suit her particular strengths and talents. Which suit her particular strengths and talents. Which will help her to gain sufficient points to get into her chosen course. Which will help her to gain sufficient points to get into her chosen course.

Ask yourself “am I determined to spend time studying this subject?” “Am I prepared to do the work to get to grips with this subject?” If you are not sure at this stage what you would like to do choose a good mix of subjects to cover your options Think what would you like to DO with your life, choose subjects that may help you with that goal

DoDon’t Choose subjects she enjoys Choose subjects she is good at Choose subjects she needs for her chosen career Keep her options open for the future by making a balanced choice now Talk to her Guidance Counsellor and Teachers Choose a subject because her friend is choosing it Choose a subject because she likes the teacher Choose a subject because she thinks it will be easy Choose a new subject without finding out more about it/last minute decision

Remember.... There are three things to remember when choosing a subject: 1. Choose a subject she enjoys 2. Choose a subject she has an interest in 3. Choose a subject she has a talent /flair for
