PRACTICAL CASES 1)Competitor active / not active 2)DH Draw Board 3)SL pole missing 4)Wrong bibs 5)DSQ racer Alpine Technical Delegates Update 2011

1.COMPETITOR ACTIVE / NOT ACTIVE A racer does not appear on the 5th FIS List (Tuesday 21 st December) but his biography shows that he is active and has FIS Points. The 6 th List is valid from Thursday on. He is on the board for Wednesday competition.  Can you let him start?  If yes, how do you enrolled him on the board? Alpine Technical Delegates Update 2011

1.COMPETITOR ACTIVE / NOT ACTIVE Alpine Technical Delegates Update 2011

2.DH DRAW BOARD After the first DH training 5 competitors from amongst the first 15 on the board are sick and are unable to start the second training. Their coach wants to pull them from the board to give some others the chance to start in the first 15 group. He asked if they can start the race the day after tomorrow if they are feeling well.  Check the rules  Is there any disadvantage to the competitors?  What if they did not start the first training? Alpine Technical Delegates Update 2011

2.DH DRAW BOARD Rules to be consider: 215.1All entries must be sent so that the Organising Committee receives them before the final date of entry. The organisers must have a final and complete list not later than 24 hours before the first draw The competitors entered by a National Ski Association will only be drawn if provided written entries have been received by the organiser before the closing date Double Entries If a competitor is entered into and drawn for a competition and subsequently leaves this competition in order to participate in another competition, he will not be permitted to return to the first competition. The FIS Office will refer all double entries to the FIS Council for appropriate action. Alpine Technical Delegates Update 2011

2.DH DRAW BOARD Rules to be consider: 621.7The first group and the groups without FIS Points in Downhill training must be drawn every day. 627Not Permitted to Start 627.5in training for Downhill has not participated in at least one timed training run (art ) A reduction in the number of training days or at least one training run may be decided on by the Jury A competitor must participate in at least one timed training run. Alpine Technical Delegates Update 2011

3.SL POLE MISSING Slalom competition. Racer number 5 started and after passing gate number 10, finds that the next turning pole is missing. He realized that something happened but still skies another 3-4 gates. After this, he stops. His coach, standing close to you asked immediately for a re run. After the first run a protest against the confirmation of the re- run is made.  Can anyone make a protest?  If yes, within what time frame? Alpine Technical Delegates Update 2011

Discuss also this situation.... Practical Case 3

3.SL POLE MISSING Rules to be consider: A competitor who is obstructed while racing must stop immediately after the incident takes place and apply to any member of the Jury for a re-run. This claim can also be made by the team captain of the obstructed competitor. The competitor should make his way to the Finish along the side of the course In special situations (e.g. in case of missing gates, failure of the timekeeping system or other technical failures), the Jury may order a re-run. Alpine Technical Delegates Update 2011

3.SL POLE MISSING Rules to be consider: Absence of a gate knocked down by a previous competitor that has not been promptly replaced Other similar incidents beyond the will and control of the competitor, which cause significant loss of speed or a lengthening of the racing line and consequently affect the competitors time. Alpine Technical Delegates Update 2011

4.WRONG BIBS During the first run a coach close to you makes a comment regarding two competitors from the same nation who finished minutes ago. Apparently numbers 8 and 13 started with wrong bibs. Before the run has finished the Coach responsible for that Team came to you and explained his mistake, he gave the competitors the wrong bibs.  How do you deal with this case?  Is there any rule you can use? Alpine Technical Delegates Update 2011

4.WRONG BIBS Rules to be consider: 629Disqualifications A competitor will be disqualified if he: 629.1participates in the race under false pretences Alpine Technical Delegates Update 2011

5.DSQ RACER DH race is finished. You have already sent the results to the FIS and results have been published on the web. Before dinner you receive a protest against the qualification of a racer apparently who was DSQ and nobody noticed. You consult the video.  Is there something you can do?  What advice would you give the coaches? Alpine Technical Delegates Update 2011

5.DSQ RACER Rules to be consider: 647Right of Appeals 647.1The Appeal Can be made: -against the official result. This appeal has to be directed exclusively against an obvious and proved calculation mistake. Alpine Technical Delegates Update 2011

5.DSQ RACER Appeals must be submitted to the FIS Office Time Limits Appeals against Jury decisions must be submitted to the Appeals Commission within 48 hours of their announcement The official results may be appealed to the Council via the FIS Office within 30 days for matters that are outside the competence of the jury.
